It seems like I have at least one wrestler a year and let me tell you they are some of my favorite sessions! These guys are tough as nails and also up for anything. I always have the best time with wrestlers. For Derrick's session, we wanted to shoot here in the studio and get some shots of him and his wrestling uniform. We did this really cool, backlit shot on the green screen and then added in the smoke and texture after the fact. I also wanted to put him in some gelled lights for his school colors to really capture his school spirit, which turned out awesome! These were some of their favorite shots from the session. Shooting in the studio saved us from not being able to get into the school. This was right at the peak of COVID and schools were not letting anyone into the building, so being able to shoot on the green screen really allowed us to capture his passion for wrestling without having to get into the school.

Derrick's session was on a beautiful fall day and his mom knew right off the bat that she wanted to shoot on their property. They live just outside of Columbia and have an amazing property that has a full lake and the most beautiful trees. We were right at the peak of leaf season for his session and so the property was absolutely perfect to shoot on. I always tell my seniors if you have a property like this that's really sentimental and really has a lot of meaning to you we should 100% go out and shoot there. It makes the images that much more special in the long run. A lot of these spots are places where his mom saw him growing up, you know swimming in the lake, canoeing, and so it just adds that extra level of detail into the portraits that really round them out.

Derrick also had his sweet golden retriever at his house and so we had to get some photos! I love incorporating seniors pets. It's one of those things where they're about to leave home a lot of them are so close with their animals, and they want a special photo with them to take to college and Derrick was no different.
