If there was one person that you would describe as a firecracker, it is Miss Avory! If you've met her and her family, you know she gets it from her mama!! :)

I first met their family when I shot her older brother Ryan senior portrait a couple of years ago. He was a swimmer and we did lots of things at the pool for him! In this family,  they're all athletes. Avory's sport is gymnastics, and she had started to take a step back from it so that she could enjoy her senior year and had really gotten into skateboarding. What we wanted to do was shoot at the skate ramp here in Columbia, but when the days are nice and there is sunshine, there are a lot of people at the skate ramp. She really wasn't comfortable being in a place where everyone would be looking at her and watching her while we were trying to take these photos, so (if you will believe it), we were back behind a warehouse store!

We had this bright blue shipping container that I know would be so cool! I'm sure that when we pulled up there, she and her mom thought, "what the heck are we doing at this weird location? There's a dumpster right over there. Why are we even here?!" But I was like, "Hey guys, you've got to trust me. This is gonna be so cool!" I absolutely love the way these turned out.

One of the funniest things that happened was we had a security guard approach us and he had to confirm that we weren't actually skateboarding back there. I'm sure it was liability related. They can't have people loitering on their property, etc. So there we are with this giant light; I've got a camera bag. We've got her mom and Avory and we're all we're parked right here in front of the shipping container. Clearly we're not doing anything shady, but I'm sure that's just part of being in a bigger town. You'd never know what people are up to. He came over and kind of checked what we were doing and then also parked in made sure we left! You just never know what's going to happen on a senior shoot!
